About This Project

A free macOS diagnostic tool that shows you exactly what's eating your disk space. Scans your Mac for caches, large files, app remnants, developer artifacts, and startup items. Shows everything in a clean, detailed interface. Never deletes or modifies anything - it's read-only by design.

What It Does

  • System Health Dashboard - Live CPU, memory, disk, and thermal monitoring with a weighted health score. Animated health ring with floating dust particles.
  • Cache Report - Per-app cache size breakdown. See which apps are hoarding your storage.
  • Large File Finder - Finds files 100 MB+ across your home directory, categorized by type (video, archive, app, image, audio).
  • Disk Analysis - Directory-level disk usage breakdown with real-time streaming progress and APFS-accurate sizes.
  • App Remnants - Detects orphaned data left behind by deleted apps across 10+ Library subdirectories.
  • Developer Leftovers - Finds 30+ types of build artifacts: node_modules, DerivedData, target, venv, .next, Pods, .gradle, __pycache__, and more.
  • Startup Items Audit - Lists all Launch Agents so you can see exactly what runs at login.
  • Menu Bar Extra - Always-on system stats in your menu bar.

Full Version vs App Store Lite

The direct download version has Full Disk Access with no restrictions. The App Store version (coming soon) runs inside Apple's sandbox, which limits automatic scanning.

FeatureDirect DownloadApp Store Lite
Price Free Free
System Health Dashboard Full Full
Cache Report Automatic full scan Manual folder selection
Large File Finder Scans entire home directory User must select each directory
Disk Analysis All directories automatically User must select directories
App Remnants Full ~/Library scan Limited to accessible paths
Developer Leftovers Auto-discovers project directories User must point to each directory
Startup Items User + System Launch Agents User Launch Agents only
Full Disk Access Yes Not available (sandbox)
Updates Manual / Sparkle (future) Automatic via App Store

Both versions have the exact same UI and features. The only difference is how much the sandbox limits automatic scanning. The App Store Lite version is coming soon.

Design

Built with the tasta.space "Warm Industrial" design system. Space Grotesk for all UI text, JetBrains Mono for technical metadata. Dark and light mode support. 9 languages included: English, Romanian, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Chinese (Simplified), and Portuguese (Brazil).

Zero third-party dependencies. Built natively with Swift, SwiftUI, and Mach kernel APIs.

FAQ

Yes. Space Dust Scanner is 100% free with no ads, no tracking, and no subscription.
No. Space Dust Scanner is read-only by design. It scans and reports what it finds but never deletes, modifies, or moves any files.
Full Disk Access lets the app scan directories like ~/Library/Caches and other system paths. Without it, some scan results will be incomplete. You can still use the app without it.
Both versions have the same UI and features. The direct download version can scan automatically with Full Disk Access. The App Store version runs in a sandbox, so you need to manually select folders for each scan.
The App Store Lite version is coming soon. In the meantime, download the full version directly from GitHub.
